You cannot have Southern California Cycling without talking with Michael Marckx.
Former CEO and owner/creator of the widely known BWR, Michael Marckx, is the guest of Episode 10 of the Velo Worthy Podcast. Starting off with just marathons, and making his way to triathlons, Michael was already setting himself up for becoming the huge influence he is now in the cycling and athletic world. While being friend’s with Lance Armstrong, and a drummer in a band, he continued on the athletic path by becoming a runner. After suffering a leg injury, he chose bike riding as a means of recovery, and from there, cycling became more present in his life. When he was hired by Spy, as CEO, he helped to completely turn the company around, creating a better work ethic and environment while helping the company to become better than it ever was before. During this he goes on to create the BWR, what could possibly be the most popular race in The United States. Being inspired by Belgium and France, he took the aspects of romance and challenge to create this race. His also behind the team Monster Media, which is growing to be one of the largest cycling teams in Southern California with Chapters all over the country. He then goes on to talk about his plans for the future, including mentoring college students at CSU about business, and participating in RAW (Race Across the West). If you’ve wanted to learn about Michael Marckx, today is your opportunity.

  1. Best episode so far. Very informative and great insight into Michael. Enjoyed learning more about the BWR. Impressive dude! Clearly a very driven and creative marketing mind. Would have liked for you to ask how profitable those companies were. Did all that marketing create profitability for Spy? Sales growth is one thing, profits are another 🙂

    1. Thanks for listening! Great question. It’s true some of these companies show growth on the outside but their bottom line doesn’t always follow the same trajectory. I will have to ask the next business guru on the show! Keep listening. Much appreciated!

    2. This from Michael Marckx himself
“For Spy, the profits we generated with the massive growth went back into paying off the debt the previous 4 CEOs had created. I reduced the expenses from 23 mm to 17mm and increased the sales dramatically. The challenge was only the debt we carried as a result of my predecessors indiscretions.

As for Op, we went from 120mm to 240mm in 3 years and had massive profits.

Same thing for Globe when I was there. Expenses were reduced and profitability was increased through marketing that was creative and moved the needle. “

  2. naturally like your website but you have to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very troublesome to tell the truth nevertheless I抣l certainly come back again.

  3. I have realized that online diploma is getting preferred because attaining your college degree online has turned into a popular option for many people. Quite a few people have not necessarily had a chance to attend a conventional college or university but seek the raised earning potential and career advancement that a Bachelor’s Degree provides. Still other people might have a degree in one training but wish to pursue something they already have an interest in.
